We call these SUPER wings because they are a perfect, healthier alternative to those deep-fried wings we all love on Super Bowl Sunday. The combination of sesame, spicy Chili oil and orange blossom honey combine for a spicy, sweet bite.
Get ready to enjoy the big game with a delicious and guilt-free snack that will have everyone coming back for more!
INGREDIENTS:
2 teaspoons cornstarch
2-3 Tablespoons BCOO Spicy Green Chili Fused Olive Oil* divided (see notes for less spicy options)
3 garlic cloves, finely minced
1 Tablespoon grated fresh ginger
3 scallions, sliced, then separated by whites and greens
1/4 cup soy sauce* (we use low-sodium)
1/2 cup Orange Blossom Honey
2 limes, juiced
1 Tablespoon BCOO Toasted Sesame Oil
2 teaspoons chili flakes
2 lbs chicken wings, separated (tips removed)
salt and pepper
sesame seeds (toasted)
Directions-
- Preheat oven to 350 degrees
- In a small bowl, add cornstarch and 1 tablespoon water. Mix well (may need more water as needed. Set aside.
- Warm 2 tbsp. Olive Oil in saute pan. Add garlic, ginger and scallion whites and cook until just fragrant.
- In same pan, stir in soy sauce, honey, lime juice, Sesame Oil and chili flakes. Slowly whisk in cornstarch slurry and bring to a boil. Reduce to simmer and cook 3-4 minutes until sauce has reduced slightly. Remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature* (may be made ahead and stored in fridge overnight)
- Pat chicken wings dry. Rub with remaining tablespoon of olive oil, season with salt and pepper.
- Place cooling rack inside rimmed cookie sheet and lay chicken wings in middle of cookie sheet and drummettes on outside.
- Bake in oven for 20 minutes
- Remove wings from oven and baste with sauce.
- Turn oven up to 400 degrees
- Return to oven for 15-20 minutes or until chicken is cooked through (165 degrees). Keep a close eye on wings so they don't burn. You may want to rotate sheet
- Remove from oven and allow to cool slightly. Garnish with scallion greens and sesame seeds. EAT!
NOTES- If you find that the Spicy Green Chili Oil may be a bit much (it's VERY spicy) we like the flavor pairing of Roasted Garlic Infused Olive Oil, the brightness of Tahitian Lime Olive Oil or a smooth, pleasing Arbequina EVOO.
